Metal box (PIL alubm) in Dub

I landed in London last night and just came back from a gig at Village Underground, Shoreditch. The gig tonight, similar to this one in February was superb. Both Jah Wobble and Keith Leven were great. The singer (unknown) is still a mysterdy.

Post Galapagos blues

Rather than ending a holiday on a high note, I woke up on Friday in Quito packing for my 4pm Friday KLM flight to AMS-LHR. I woke up with an idea of changing my ticket yet again this time, not to stay longer at Galapagos, but to go to Cusco. I was in Lima 3 years ago on a brief conference trip and did not make it to Cusco. I visited Latin America and central America at least 40 different occasions and always wanted to treasure that trip and plan it well and make it looong.

My friend and once an ex-collegue from Edinburgh, Angus McIntyre, was the first man on the Internet to have a blog about Inka's trail. Comes up first in "the" search engine. :-)  I keep remembering the cover of a big encyclopedia glossy pictures book from childhood days called "Seven wonders of the world", was a huge photo of Machu Pichu. The luscious green of the mountain and eagle shape of this estate built in 14th century is the most unimaginable place on earth I have seen after the pyramids, estern islands, etc, chinese wall...

Well I am here now, thinking that i continue to do my travels with as much stress as possible due to last minute planning or INSPIRATION? or support? - but as always hopinig for the best. Yesterday I was mugged in Quito in centro historico just before leaving to the airport. I felt shattered emotionally wanting just to cancel my flights and fly back home, as I use it as a camera.

I persevered, stopped by the hotel, changed all passwords and found a last ticket on the last LAN flight at 20:50 on LAN to LIMA. Today, I took sorroche pills and am drinking all the cocca tea I can get.

Here in Cusco, lives Engineer Alfredo Inca Roca - the only direct descendant of Inkas.

Dinner at Greens. Post Galapagos blues is fading, and hopefully mugging taste less unpleasant with cocca tea. How blue would be the Machu Pichu blues? (only 11,000 feet blue)

Still sharing the same beach with iguanas

In Iguana land. It does not get better than going to a beach and meeting a black iguana on the very entrance staring at you and not moving. It probably just came out of water that I'm going to swim in. Saw a white spot ray later in the shallow water, but it moved very fast and another one in the harbour. Yesterday I swam with a sea lion on Isabella island in one of the channels, quite a step up from diving in together with penguins, which were very fast swimmers and divers. Found some useful facts about what to bring links.

In Manchester today there was an important meeting with some 250 + academics discussing the future of Digital Public Space: http://thecreativeexchange.org/CX_Researcher_Call.pdf

Geckos everywhere

Arrived at Puerta Ayora today after landing at Baltra airport and taking a TAME bus and a water taxi and a land taxi and another water taxi. At the boat taxi key there was free WiFi and I met Michael Parris from T&T who sailed here from Tahiti (18 days, but mainly motor sailing.) We talked about Kontiki project and the film that he and his friend are making about sustainable living. He worked with one familly at Is it possible? His yacht leaves tomorrow for Panama and I leave for Bartolome island and South Plazas. Geckos everywhere. And yes, I'd be looking for a beagle dog, not a ship.

Quito

I arrived to Quito last night and had one of the worst jetlaggs ever, from 4pm until 6am this mornig - funny headache in the left side of the temple. I went to bed at 2am and woke up at 4am in London flew to Quito via Amsterdam. Luckily I carry liquid oxygen drops and hotel offerred to supply oxygen at 65 USD a shot. Being at 2800 meters altitude just asks for longer adjustment time then my usual, land, run to hotel, shower, straight into a session. But but but I remembered the warmth I felt in my heart every time I saw a beautiful endemic tree that grows here. Worth every minute of my jetlagg, not to mention the proximity of Galapagos. A happy camper wrote this guide.

Internet Society Bylaws change

As a Co-Chair of the Internet Society Advisory Council, I'm watching the proposed changes to current Bylaws which are generating a lot of discussion on the chapters mailing lists and only recently on the Organisational members. Bottom line, the role of the AC should be determined by the Org membership but the board should recognise it and make a reference to it in the new bylaws.

2012 IG activities in full swing

In addition to WCIT 2012 - in Dubai 2-4 Dec, being the event of the year - for those that care that Telco's rules do not become Internet rules - through the revision of the 1988 old Download ITR-e-4 - I'd be setting up an event in London this summer through www.isoc-e.org to discuss what's at stake.

Additionally the review of all IGF workshops is on and they'd be distilled for the 7th IGF in Baku in October.

Closer to home, on a national level in the UK, the event in Manchester this month should be of significant importantce for the future dps agenda setting: http://thecreativeexchange.org/CX_Researcher_Call.pdf.

INET20

After 4 days of meetings, the INET 20 ended today. The Internet Society celebrated its first 20 years. I enjoyed seeing all friends and meeting Len Kleinrock and Larry Roberts in person (whom I asked to sign my copy of When the wizzards stay up late.)

Pizza de Paolo was a good change to hotel Intercont. Tomorrow morning, after a meeting with ISOC staff, and my ISOC Advisory Co-Chair colleague, Keith Davidson, from Internet NZ, there is another group of friends which I'm looking forward to see www.shareconference.net.

Then Paris, London, Equador, Geneva and Gambia and Sweden, perhaps I'll get round to visiting Krumlov in June http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ceskystage.jpg

Topic of this year is WCIT, December 2012 in Dubai wondering how the ITR treaty may further limit cilvil liberties and human rights online.
